About this bottle
Bollinger is a family-owned, independent house from Aÿ (pronounced ah-EE), founded in 1829. It focuses on Pinot Noir and fermentation in oak barrels, and has supplied Champagne to the British court since 1884.
Special Cuvée (pronounced spay-SYAL koo-VAY) is the house's core blend. Pinot Noir dominates, some of the wines ferment in oak barrels, and the house keeps its reserve wines in magnums under cork. The result is a full-bodied Champagne with firm structure.
It stands up well to food: poultry, fish in butter sauce, mature cheeses. The bottle comes in the house's own box, so it makes a gift without extra wrapping. This batch has a duty-free version of the label.
