Our story

Behind SZAMPAN.com.pl are the founders of Dom Szampana, the first company in Poland to deal only in Champagne and to devote all its attention to this one wine. At a time when Champagne in Poland meant a few big brands and the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, Dom Szampana introduced Polish customers to small houses and family growers from Champagne, then almost unknown here. The producers we chose went on to win the highest accolades on the Polish market, and the way we talked about Champagne - through people, villages and style rather than the label - set standards that others later followed.

Dom Szampana was an open house: for tastings, meetings and conversations among Champagne lovers. For many people its catalogue was their first guide to Champagne. Some of the descriptions of houses and wines in our shop come from it.

Today we are back with the same conviction and far greater means. Our group is an authorised distributor of Moët Hennessy in Poland, and we import Champagne from growers and smaller houses ourselves.

Why we do it

So that Champagne is not just for toasts. It is a wine that works well at the table: with fish, seafood, poultry, cheese. We show how different Champagnes can be and what each one goes with.

So that the choice is not intimidating. We explain labels, dosage, vintages and the differences between houses in plain language. For French names we give the pronunciation, and for critics' scores we always give the source.

So that great houses and small growers stand side by side. The craft of a family producer often says more than the advertising budget of a big brand, which is why in one place you will find Dom Pérignon and a single-village Champagne from a family that has been making it for generations.

So that the price is fair. Champagne tastes best when it costs no more than it has to. We set our prices from what the bottles cost us to buy, not from how much we could charge.

To spread knowledge about Champagne in Poland. We write a guide, compile rankings and tell the stories of the houses, because the more we know about wine, the more sensibly and enjoyably we choose it.

What we sell

Only Champagne, i.e. sparkling wine from the French region of Champagne. From great houses such as Moët & Chandon, Bollinger or Louis Roederer to family growers who tend their own vines and make Champagne from their own grapes. Alongside 0.75 l bottles we have half-bottles, magnums and larger formats, vintages and boxed versions.

Where the bottles come from

Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Krug and Dom Pérignon are supplied by our group, an authorised distributor of Moët Hennessy in Poland. Champagne from growers and smaller houses we import ourselves from Champagne.

How we help you choose

For every bottle we describe how it tastes, what it goes with and how to serve it, and for some we give critics' scores with the source. In the  guide we explain how Brut differs from Extra Brut and what the words on the label mean in the  rankings we line up bottles by price and occasion, and we write about the history of the producers on the pages of the Champagne houses.
