About this bottle
Rosé de Saignée is the best-loved wine of the Bernard family of Dizy (pronounced dee-zee).
The colour depends on the vintage: sometimes it leans towards orange, sometimes towards ruby. It smells of red fruit, mainly cherry and currant, with a hint of pepper. On the palate fresh citrus and raspberries, and the long finish turns to delicate spice.
It owes its colour and fruit concentration to macerating the must on the skins, not to added red wine. The grapes come from the premier cru vineyards (pronounced pruh-MYAY KREW) of the Bernard family.
With foie gras and figs, duck with oranges or with porcini, and with red-fruit desserts.
About the houseA family house in Dizy, a village next to Hautvillers, where the Bernards' ancestors have grown vines since at least the 17th century. The founder, Arthur Bernard, made his own Champagne after hours while working for someone else, and dug the cellars where the bottles lie today with his own hands.History, people and stories: Alain Bernard
