About this bottle
Carte Blanche (pronounced kart blahnsh) is the entry-level Champagne of the Forget family from Ludes (pronounced LOOD), a premier cru village (pronounced pruh-MYAY KREW) in the Montagne de Reims (pronounced mohn-TAN-yuh duh RANS), and a good calling card for its style.
It is a ripe golden yellow with fine, regular bubbles. The nose first offers quince, bread crust and dried flowers, then musky notes, and after a while minerality in the glass. On the palate it is assertive, with moderate acidity and a long, mineral finish.
It is made from three grapes and ten of the family's crus, with the predominance of Meunier typical of the house, and from six vintages. The dosage is classic Brut. In 2012 it won gold medals at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris and the Concours des Vignerons Indépendants.
With white meat in sauce, puff pastry vol-au-vents and mushroom stews. A good choice for a larger party.
